The buzz is not a big part of the sound, but my new loudspeaker is quite articulate, and I have the amp up on a stand so I look directly into the speaker when I play. ![]() I didn't want to believe it, and spent over an hour fussing with the controls, but it didn't go away. Last week I swapped out the Telefunken for an old GE 12AX7. I figured I would revisit this tube swap question some day, but I did not get around to it until last week. I was pleased that the amp with the Telefunken was mellower and less 'buzzy.' Others of you have made similar tube replacements in Valvetronix amps, and you generally wrote good things, or at least I did not read any complaints or problems. What does the tube do? What is the value of swapping the tube? In the middle of this thread we had a bit of a discussion about how Valvetronix amps actually work. I started an old thread describing this speaker swap: My first priority was to replace the 12 inch speaker, and that's why I bought the 50 watt version - to have a good selection of replacement speakers. I bought my amp some time ago and promptly modified it. After the experience described here I even more pleased, although I am now even more puzzled about how it works. First let me say that I have been quite pleased with my VOX Valvetronix AD50VT modeling amp.
